Theresa Maloney

Cogenta Communications Founder + President

After running marketing for two “dot coms” and a steady climb up the agency ladder working with both blue chip clients and scrappy entrepreneurs at Fleishman Hillard, Porter Novelli and a small boutique firm, Theresa founded Cogenta Communications to become the agency she would hire. Today she brings more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and communications working directly with founders and executives to develop highly nuanced stories that tell investors, influencers, media and potential recruits how they are changing the world.

Theresa began her “startup” career as the first employee at a boutique integrated marketing firm, where clients included the City of San Jose, San Jose Symphony and San Jose Sharks. She was also a charter member of the international firm Fleishman-Hillard’s San Francisco office before spending time in other leading agency groups launching high-growth companies like eBay and WebMD. Most recently she has seen clients acquired by industry leaders like VMWare, 23andMe, Amwell and Google.

Theresa’s clients have appeared in major outlets including Bloomberg, Insider, Reuters, Businessweek, TIME, Forbes, Fortune, The Economist, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, CNN, NPR, Bloomberg TV, USA Today, U.S. News & World Report and TechCrunch.

She has won two Compass Awards and one Silver Anvil, awarded by the Public Relations Society of America. Her research was published in the Journal of Popular Culture.
